Noah had contemplated it from time to time. Actually, he'd dreamed it more than once. The reaction on her face. His face. When he actually saw the realization of it. He should have been prepared. Or at least he thought, he'd be used to the idea.
But that was just a dream. A dream to let him smile. Feel a small heart attack coming over him, pumped with happiness.
Well....
"Well??" He looked at Josie who opened the bathroom door. The look on her face, full of excitement and glee. She squealed so as she handed over the stick she'd peed on.
Noah, thought he laughed but he wasn't sure. He took a look. Yes, it was blue. He almost felt himself falter. Could he possibly be a part of this or was this where she said in her dream something surreal like, "Oh, I sent away for a Taylor Lautner sperm kit. I forgot to tell you."
He sucked in a breath. Instead, she gave him a hug. A kiss on the cheek.
"LOOK! What we did!" As if they'd worked on a science experiment all night long. He had to sat down. He just nodded. Jonah was going to kill him.
"We have no idea, how long?" He looked at her.
"I'm sorry. I don't." She kind of frowned, but it didn't last long. She sat on his lap and kissed him as if they needed to celebrate, somehow.
Noah thought he was nodding, but he might have been shaking. He reached for his cell. It was time to call home. He had too. He just did.
"Mom." He sounded like he might be in a well somewhere for away.
"ARE YOU ALL RIGHT!" His mother was screaming. "Do you know how long I've been waiting, hoping you'd call! God, what's going on!"
"Its kind of a long story." Noah started. "I don't guess my brother is there."
"What do you know about your brother? Have you seen Jonah? Have you? Noah? The cops are looking for him," she said.
"No, no, uh, I haven't see him," Noah said. "Could maybe, you come and pick me and Josie up. We're in Minnesota."
"Minnesota! How did you get there?"
"I'm sorry, Mom, I really am. But, don't be mad, please. Cause, I think I need you now more than ever. Me and Josie." He knew he had to tell her everything now. If he ever wanted for things to get near normal again, he had to tell her, everything.
